A highlight this year is the 2019 Marsannay Les Ouzeloy, a lovely wine that opens in the glass with notions of cassis, plums, sweet berries and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, with a broad attack that segues into a layered, lively mid-palate, it's a serious effort, built for the cellar.
Soft wood frames the spicier aromas of dark currant, black raspberry and discreet whiffs of spice and earth. The slightly sleeker medium-bodied flavors also possess an appealing mid-palate texture that culminate in a naturally sweet if very firm, compact and equally serious finale. The old vines are in evidence and this excellent effort is also going to require at least some forbearance.
