The 2011 Gevery-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques, whose vines are located between Armand Rousseau and Louis Jadot, has a tightly-wound bouquet with raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and a touch of quince. The palate is structured with a gentle grip, a slight salty tang toward the finish, that needs just a touch more precision. I actually prefer the Chambolle Cherbaudes in terms of balletic poise. Cellar this for two or three years.
The wine volunteered by the organiser of the 2017 think tank on fine wine, Nicole Rolet, because one like it had been her wine epiphany. Sweet, fresh, lifted with a tiny hint of something not disagreeably vegetal. Gorgeously complete even at this early stage.
