Brooding, dark and savory, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino reflects much of the heat of the vintage. The 2012 growing season was hot and dry with little moisture in the soil throughout the summer. This wine reveals ripe fruit aromas of blackberry preserves and cherry liqueur as a result. It's a little over the top for my tastes. Its appearance is marked by a dark crimson color and dark concentration. Sweet fruit flavors and a chewy texture describe the mouthfeel.
This is very Burgundian in style, with effusive cherry, strawberry and floral aromas and flavors riding a supple texture until the characteristic Sangiovese tannins emerge on the finish. Elegant, complex and long overall.
