Opened in magnum and followed for several hours, even my high expectations were surpassed by the stunning 2008 Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules. Unwinding in the glass with notes of pear, crisp green apple and citrus oil mingled with smoke, iodine, toasted almonds and beeswax, it's full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, with a deep, multidimensional core, striking concentration and a long, penetrating finish. Seamless and complete, it's a chiseled, vibrant wine that represents the apotheosis of Bouchard's unique vision for Champagne. While the 2008 Ursules was brilliant on release, at age 12, it's nothing short of a revelation. What's more, it has a long and glorious future ahead of it.
