Revealing aromas of raspberries, spices and coniferous forest floor, the 2017 Fixin Village is medium-bodied, velvety and enveloping, with an open-knit, succulent core, melting tannins and a nicely defined finish. This isn't the most concentrated of Mongeard-Mugneret's 2017s, but it's giving, expressive and pleasure-bent.
Deep ruby color. The ripe, fresh and moderately bright aromas consist of dark raspberry, newly turned earth and a whisper of sauvage character that is again trimmed in discreet wood. There is very good freshness and energy to the agreeably textured and delineated middle weight flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the youthfully austere and mildly rustic finale.
The Fixin vieilles vignes come from plots of a total of 54 hectare. The soils are stony on argillocalcareous. The average age of vines is 65 years and harvesting is done manually. The grapes are hand-sorted in the winery. Maturing is done on 5 to 10 % new oak barrels.
