The 2011 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has an endearing strawberry pastille bouquet that is very pure and sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, pitch perfect acidity and a succulent, sappy black cherry and blueberry finish that is long and citrus fresh. Excellent. Drink 2016-2033.
Reduction masks the nose though there is a really lovely mouth feel to the medium-bodied flavors courtesy of the unusually fine-grained tannins. There is even a lacy quality that is enhanced by the plentiful amounts of palate coating dry extract that also serves to buffer the tannins. So while this will certainly be capable of amply rewarding longer-term aging, this is one of the few among these grands crus that should be approachable young
