£200 a bottle in bond! No wonder my pour is so small. Cask sample.
Pale garnet. Sweet and easy and gentle. It's certainly made the most of the vintage character. I wish I could go back and wallow in and describe the nuances but I will have to console myself with all the ricocheting flavours on the finish. I have to control my anti-gouging instincts and report that this is a very good wine.
A touch of green tea is present on the high-toned, pure and airy nose of various red berries, anise and violet. The lilting and beautifully detailed medium weight flavors that also flash good minerality on the moderately austere and slightly angular finish that isn't exactly lean though there is hint of edginess.
A fine and even crimson purple. The bouquet has the classical hillside precision of Beaux Monts, always a favourite cuvée of mine here. There is a touch more reserve in this cuvée. The ripe red fruit has some darker notes and not the fresh pepper of slightly less ripe cuvees. Linear yet with a fine weight of fruit, and the right tannins to complete the structure. “One of the best we have ever made”– but 5 barrels instead of three times that.
