Much like the VRBM, the cool, airy and strikingly well-layered nose is overtly floral-suffused while displaying additional liqueur-like aromas of essence of red and dark currant, poached plum and exotic tea wisps. There is already superb depth to the wonderfully sleek and solidly dense broad-shouldered flavors that possess a wonderfully beguiling texture before terminating a well-balanced, youthfully austere and stunningly long finish, indeed this offers the best length in the range. It is however very much built to repay extended keeping so be prepared to cellar it accordingly. Brilliant.
Deep ruby; seductively lithe after the Échezeaux, with a currently slimmed-down expression of red- and black-berried fruit. All trussed up, closed for business today, and indeed tomorrow – revealing more potential than loquacious charm. Seamless structure and balance. Come back later. Much later. (MH)
Like the Grivot Echezeaux, I had some initial doubts about the bouquet which the wine on the palate subsequently removed. Quite full purple, with a bacon fat reduction on the nose. A deeply sensual red fruit beneath, before a relatively dry finish due to the current reduction. Not quite in the groove today, but will develop well from here as the reduction diminishes.
