The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras is similarly compelling, soaring from the glass with aromas of red berries, exotic spices, orange rind, musk and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and tightly wound, with a deep and vibrant core of fruit that's framed by fine, powdery tannins, it concludes with a long, penetrating and intensely mineral finish. This is a magical Chambolle-Musigny worth a special effort to seek out.
Cask sample. A little darker than the Chatelots. Vibrant crimson. More savoury and spiced on the nose but still with gorgeous Chambolle scent. And that dark floral aspect which is peony and not rose. Even a light touch of violets. Chewy but rounded, more obviously oaky but made sweet on the palate by the lovely fruit. Intense and long, with a long way to go and yet more approachable in this vintage than is typical for her wines. Finely dry finish. (JH)
Here too there is a note of poached plum to the to the spicy and quite floral-suffused aromas. In the same fashion as the best wines in the fashion, there is impressive volume to the dense and tautly muscular large-scaled flavors that brim with minerality on the austere and very tightly wound finale. This is also excellent with super development potential though extended patience will be absolutely necessary.
