The 2015 Pommard 1er Cru les Croix Noires was perhaps the one cuvee that seemed to translate as much of the warm growing season as it does the terroir, hints of fig and date tincturing the otherwise attractive dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy, ripe, supple tannin. This will be a relatively rich and opulent Pommard, although undeniably it is balanced on the finish with ample freshness and offers a lovely blood orange aftertaste.
The restrained nose only grudgingly offers up its aromas of essence of red pinot fruit along with shy floral, earth and spice notes. I very much like the sense of tension and vibrancy of the saline, muscular and powerful middle weight plus flavors where the supporting tannins are more refined than usual. Once again, this is very pretty but it's not going to be an especially good candidate for early consumption.
