The 2012 Echezeaux Grand Cru has very precise bouquet with raspberry preserve and vibrant minerally notes. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins a gentle grip, a little creamy in texture with touches of mocha and dark chocolate originating from the oak that confirms my feelings from barrel, when I opined that it was just a little thickly layered.
There is just enough wood to notice but not really enough to materially detract from the spicy aromas of red and black pinot fruit that display plenty of floral character. There is very good richness to the markedly suave and beguilingly textured middle weight flavors that coat the palate on the balanced, vibrant and impressively persistent finish. I like the complexity and this should drink well on the younger side if desired.
