I also tasted the 2015 Viñedo Chadwick from a warm and dry vintage that resulted in very healthy grapes that were picked earlier than ever. The parameters are remarkably similar to the 2014, and the winemaking and élevage were also virtually the same, fermentation in stainless steel and aging in French barriques (73% new) and with some 15% matured in a Stockinger oak foudre. As I saw in many other 2015s, this is the most elegant and refined vintage I have seen of this wine. With ultra-refined tannin, the wine is dry, very clean, not minty at all, with very good tension and length, with a chalky, tasty, almost salty finish. Of course, the classical notes of cedar wood, black peppercorns and tobacco are there, but in a very subtle way. Super elegant. 11,493 bottles were filled in February 2017.
Very deep and primary fruit character to this red gives the wine amazing length and focus. It seems to go on forever. Full body yet vivid and energetic. Tannic and muscular yet so polished and refined. Drink now. But one for the cellar as well.
An initial lactic note, bedded in crushed dark berry notes, almost has a lifted conifer resin note. The palate is smooth, slender, elegant, fresh. This is structure and poise, filled out with lovely berry fruit, fine tannin and utter freshness.
Interesting tension and drive on the nose. Lots of freshness but very youthful – almost naked fruit. For the moment a bit angular but certainly a new direction and will need a little more time to prove itself I think. But there is certainly complexity here.
The 2015 Viñedo Chadwick is a pure Cabernet Sauvignon from a textbook year in Puente Alto, with several peaks in temperature and a slow-ripening end to the season. The wine aged for 22 months in French barrels and 15% in foudres. It is garnet red with a ruby sheen in the glass. The nose is herbal and intense with precise red fruit flavors of sour cherry, blackcurrant and hints of blueberry, all framed by the oak. In the mouth, it is medium bodied with an ethereal flow and well-defined flavor channeled by the refined tannins. The precision and energy go up a notch toward the end, leading in to the lengthy finish.
