The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jean (Rouge) opens in the glass with notes of cherries, sweet berry fruit, rich soil tones and spices. Medium to full-bodied, lively and fleshy, it's an elegant and charming red that will offer a broad drinking window.
Here too there is discreet but discernible dollop of wood on the spicier and more elegant aromas of black pinot fruit, earth and floral suggestions. The racy, intense and notably finer middle weight flavors exude a subtle minerality on the beautifully textured finale that is both more persistent and more complex. This is also very good and worth checking out.
Lovely mid purple, this has more density than the village wine, but also slightly firmer tannins, which is fine in a wine designed to be a vin de garde. The fruit just keeps building on the palate, with a lovely suave aftertaste. Yes please!
