The 2022 Bockstein GG opens clear, bright and floral on the nose and shows elegant fruit. It is juicy, savory and spicy on the palate, but still yeasty and a bit bitter on the finish. It has medium rather than convincing length. Tasted in Wiesbaden at the Vorpremiere VDP.Grosses Gewächs in August 2023.
Quite a restrained wine for a site that is famed for the effusiveness of its wines. Full-bodied and ripe, but with a healthy structure and enough acidity to stay bright right the way through. Slightly tannic at the finish, so may benefit from a bit more time in the bottle.
The 2022 Riesling Ockfener Bockstein Grosses Gewächs does not give much away on the nose. The palate, however, is juicy, showing a stony wet rock verve with a lemony brightness. The impression is of unbending, rocky depth and fine-boned yet firm structure with a lemony, tangy, bright finish. (Bone-dry)
Slightly balsamic on the nose, slate savouriness, rosehip, rosewood, yellow plum. On the palate the wine has a delicate, almost subtle structure, vivid mineral extract and a fine thread of acidity with restrained fruitiness. The Bockstein site from its more subtle (but certainly no less ripe) side. Great length.
