The wines produced by Pine Ridge over the last five or six years are vastly superior to what Pine Ridge was making in 2001. This pleasant, medium-bodied, straightforward effort reveals the elegance one expects from the Stags Leap region, but it lacks the concentration and potential longevity found in more recent vintages. The fully mature 2001 reveals notes of cedar, roasted herbs, loamy soil, red and black currants.
A lean, taut wine, with a touch of mint, coffee, currant and cedary oak in the aroma. Tastes a bit fuller bodied on the palate, with a beam of acidity and ripe tannins that leave you hoping for a little more richness and complexity.
