The 2010 NIC is produced with Tempranillo from three small plots planted in 1920, which fermented and aged for 30 months in 500-liter French oak barrels, including malolactic. It’s initially muted, completely shy, austere, and perhaps a little reduced, with notes of matchbox and a lactic touch, with the reductive notes taking the shape of some garlicky aromas. After a long time it opens up with the fruit black rather than red, and there are balsamic aromas of peat and graphite. The palate is full-bodied, with sophisticated tannins, good acidity and balance, slightly rustic perhaps, but with a clear character from Ribera del Duero. It feels quite marked by the oak even if the barrels used were 500 liters. It needs time. Drink 2015-2020.
A powerful red, thick and dense on the palate, with solid but well-integrated tannins. Fresh acidity keeps this lively, unlocking flavors of plum, currant, licorice, mineral and spice. Delivers an impressive combination of concentration and balance.?
