The 2012 Vinha da Ponte is part of this issue's vertical. As with the 2010 to some extent, this won't be confused with the most powerful or intense Ponte, but the restraint and balance is actually quite endearing here. If anything, this is slightly better than the 2010, especially right now. It is showing less oak impact, expressive fruit, and is more lifted showing that generally fine balance that it always showed. As Ponte goes, this is sedate and approachable on the early side. It is actually quite drinkable now, after some aeration. It does tighten on the finish with aeration, but it is still surprisingly civilized and fresh. Its elegance makes it a pleasure to drink. It is going to a precocious beauty, but it is a touch compact and I'm not sure it will develop as well as some.
A complex, elegant red, with rich notes of Asian spice and Bourbon vanilla flanking the luscious flavors of Christmas pudding and hoisin sauce. Features intense accents of chocolate mousse midpalate, followed by a creamy finish.
