Robert Parker (92)

The 2015 Valpolicella Classico Superiore la Fabriseria is a fresh and immediate blend of 35% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta, with fruit from a vineyard site 500 meters above sea level. The grapes are left on the vines to shed some of their water volume before they are pressed and fermented with light punch-downs to extract color and aromas, but not in an excessive manner. The wine ferments on the skins for one month, so the power and concentration of those grapes does come through, especially on the finish. This is a terrific expression that is informal but offers complexity at the same. Serve it with sandwiches of grilled steak, roasted peppers, rucola and Parmesan cheese. Some 10,000 bottles were made.

Stunning ripeness and complexity for a Valpolicella! Everything fits, the balance of full, moderately dry tannins with plums and blackberries giving this a lot of appeal and the ability to cope with much more substantial dishes than these wines are usually paired with. Long and exciting finish.

Full bottle 1,461 g. Certified 3E Equitas sustainable winery. Organically farmed vineyards, working towards certification. They have only made nine vintages of this wine, since Lorenzo Tedeschi first made it in 1983. Just 2,500 bottles. It spends three years in bottle after oak ageing in large, old oak barrels.
A quiet nose. Sabrina Tedeschi told me the story of the cross on the label, which is partly in honour of her grandfather, who was on the church council, and when they had meetings to discuss the building of the new church, he would bring his best wine to the meeting for everyone to drink afterwards. But it's also to mark the two crosses in the vineyard and a tribute to all the people who would stop and pray at those crosses, many generations ago, on their way to seek sanctuary. The wine smells of those prayers, of churches filled with the memories of timeless prayers. It tastes of roasting chestnuts and membrillo, whortleberry jam and slate dust. Coffee beans and black velvet, cloves and black pepper. The fruit is more savour than sweet, the spices soft as a whisper. The alcohol is warm but not fiery. The tannins thread through the wine with the gleam of silk and the muscle of a racehorse. It's achingly elegant and long. Quiet, seductive power. Magnificent. (TC)

Strong, intense and bright ruby red. Very rich and intense bouquet with well-defined impressions, notes of cherry, currant, coffee, resin and a pleasant spicy pepper. The palate is full-bodied and enveloping, dense, with slightly grippy tannins. The finish is pronounced, long and persistent, with a pleasant aftertaste of ripe cherry.
