You don't see much Grenache from mainland Italy or Tuscany. The Duemani 2018 G. Punto is made with organic and biodynamic fruit harvested from a parcel planted in 2014 at a high 350 meters above sea level. Rocky calcareous clay is mixed with some soils of volcano origin. The wine is fermented and aged in Tuscan clay amphorae. This beautiful Grenache is buzzing with energy and electricity that comes from the absolute purity and clarity of the fruit. You taste each little detail with sour cherry, red berry, dried oregano, aniseed and a touch of canned peach. The wine is vertical, straight and lifted in personality. Skin maceration in amphorae (called "orcio" in Italian) lasts up to five months and stems are included. The last three months of aging are spent in barrique because this helps to naturally clarify this essentially non-filtered wine. No sulfites are added except at bottling time. Some 1,000 bottles were made in this inaugural vintage, and production will ever exceed 2,000 bottles.
Lots of fresh brambleberries on the nose with freshly turned soil, lavender, herbs and lemon zest. More freshly crushed red and black berries on the palate. Hints of nutmeg and macadamia nuts, too. It’s medium-bodied and elegant with soft, silky tannins and a juicy finish. Lightly salty at the end. New wine from here. Amfora produced.
Made with organically farmed Grenache, this offers enticing aromas of lead pencil, underbrush, red-skinned berry and Mediterranean brush. The savory palate offers cassis, blood orange, clove and star anise alongside smooth, firm tannins. Kerin O’Keefe
