The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino flows with a vibrant core of perfumed red cherries, spices, tobacco and earthiness. Medium in body, the wine reveals outstanding length and a polished, refined finish. The bouquet is not as clean or focused as is usually the case, and the wine will benefit greatly from being opened an hour or two in advance. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020.
Col d’Orcia, one of Montalcino’s historic properties, is located in Sant’Angelo in Colle in the southern part of the appellation.
This has softened up somewhat, with bright acidity framing the cherry, sweet plum and spice notes. There's still an edge of tannins, but this is well put together.
