The 2021 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc Cuvée A Tempo spent 12 months in an eclectic mix of vessels: a 600-liter concrete egg, a 225-liter ceramic egg and two older barriques. Faintly nutty accents (almond?) appear on the nose, backed by white peach and tangerine fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it's dense, compact and complex, adding hints of pine resin and poached pear on the lingering finish. It should age magnificently.
A lovely nose of stone fruits, fresh citron, rosemary, fresh leaves and hints of dried earth. It’s medium-bodied with bright acidity. Precise and very refreshing with good minerality on the mid-palate and a flavorful, aromatic finish. 33% clairette, 33% roussanne, 34% grenache blanc.
A Cuvée first made in 2014 by assistant winemaker Andreas Lenzenwoger, the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvée A Tempo mingles enticing aromas of spring blossom, pear, grapefruit, pineapple, melon and lychee. Medium to full-bodied, layered and wrapped in moderate levels of bright acidity, the finish is long-lasting with a salty aftertaste.
The tiny production 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée A Tempo Blanc from this estate checks in as one-third each Clairette, Grenache Blanc, and Roussanne. It has a medium gold hue as well as bright golden apple and citrus fruits, notes of baking spices, candied orange, and exotic, sappy flower-like nuances. Blossoming with time in the glass, it's medium-bodied, has a supple, layered, elegant mouthfeel, and a great finish. It is unquestionably the most exotic of all the vintages of this cuvée to date. It's going to benefit from a year in bottle and, I suspect, evolve nicely over the following decade.
