The more structured and backward of the lineup, the 2011 Hermitage Epsilon is a blend of 100% Syrah that spent 18 months in 100% new French oak. Needing time to become approachable, it nevertheless offers thrilling aromas and flavors of smoked meats, black raspberry, pen ink, licorice and powdered rock in its medium to full-bodied, structured personality. Serious on all accounts, forget it for 4-5 years and enjoy it over the following 15 years or more.
Comes in a very expensive-looking red presentation box. Black cherry and blackberry, plus a subtle but luxurious oak spicing. Less fiercely tannic than their Gambert de Loche cuvee, but still very boldly structured. Has the volume and density of Hermitage.?
