The 1982 Clos du Mesnil is another pretty wine that is drinking beautifully today. It is the product of a vintage that produced a Clos du Mesnil with higher alcohol and lower acidity than is normally the case. To put that into perspective, the 1982 clocks in at just 6.5% acidity as compared to 9.45% for the 1988, which represents the other end of the spectrum. Still, it is amazing how much chalkiness and pure minerality comes through regardless. The 1982 is a pretty, complete Clos du Mesnil that shows the riper, open style of wine that this site is capable of in hotter years.
A ripe, opulent vintage that makes for a rich, almost thick Champagne that's packed with toasty aromas and assertive walnut and honey flavors that linger on the finish. For all the power and breadth, it's still lively and can age even longer.--Krug Clos du Mesnil vertical.
