A smoky and resinous overlay to the red fruit preserve aromas and flavors of Meo-Camuzet’s 2007 Echezeaux morphs into a suggestion almost of sheer sawdust against the sweet backdrop of jam-like and candied red fruits that encamp on the palate. Hints of maple syrup in the strikingly persistent finish leave an almost sticky impression of caramel and resin, to which a hint of fresh juiciness and of bitter, smoky black tea contribute some measure of counterpoint. This is going to be an acquired taste – but assuming that it is one you have acquired, I would anticipate enjoying the wine within the next 6-8 years.
Firm and powerful, offering cherry, black currant and mineral flavors wound tightly around a core of vibrant acidity and refined tannins, with a terrific finish. This is beautifully balanced and should develop nicely.
