Once again there is just enough wood to merit pointing out framing the spicy and airy essence of red currant, baked plum and warm earth. There is excellent density to the larger-scaled and caressing but notably powerful flavors that coat the palate with sap before terminating in a mocha-inflected, lengthy and balanced finish. This is quite good and while it should certainly age well, it should also drink well young.
10-15% whole bunch on the oldest vines. 40% new oak. Fine bright mid purple. The bouquet is very promising but doesn’t quite show itself yet. Very sumptuous on the palate, again more a general overview rather than showing the detail. This can be one of my favourite wines in Burgundy but I am finding the fruit on the edge of being over-heated. And the Mazis is not quite doing it for me today. For once, I prefer the Mazoyères-Chambertin.
