Glowing pink purple. The first idea on the nose is the rich ripe fruit of the vintage and then all the detail starts to kick in. There are definitely some peonies accompanying the multiple red fruits. On the palate the wine offers richness and delicacy, ripeness and fresh fruit, muscle and length. All the boxes are more than ticked!
A very ripe yet still agreeably fresh nose combines notes of black cherry, cassis and plum liqueur with those of warm earth and discreet anise nuances. The delicious and relatively refined larger-scaled flavors possess a caressing mid-palate texture that contrasts somewhat with the muscular, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. This is presently quite firm and is going to required extended patience.
Lighter, mid-cherry hue; defined and precise, with elegance and lightness. Grand cru weight but not a bruiser. Harmonious.
A blend of six different producers whose vines are scattered throughout the vineyard; some are in a prime location behind the château, but some are from less-favoured sites the bottom of the slope and others elsewhere. The blend of each yields a lovely result, with bright floral notes and a ripe red berry fruit character. On the palate, the wine is deftly balanced, with impressive density and nicely substantial tannins, yet the overall impression is far from strict. Definitely impressive.
