A subtle yet powerful wine, with lovely, concentrated cherry and violet flavors, a touch of spice and firm tannins.
This wine had not crossed my path since 2003 and time hasn't really improved the overall quality. Noticeable bricking is consistent with the aged and fully mature nose that is secondary in character but with no sous-bois along with a touch of volatile acidity. The rich, concentrated andr robust middle weight plus flavors exhibit a subtle minerality that helps to add a sense of lift to the slightly warm and still tannic finish that lacks a bit of grace. In sum, this is perfectly good but not better relative to the elevated standards this wine routinely achieves. I should further note that while there is no rush to drink up, neither is there any realistic hope of this wine improving from here.
