The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux unfurls in the glass with aromas of sweet wild berries, orange rind and rich soil, framed by a touch of creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with an ample, open-knit profile that's decidedly elegant and charming. It's a lovely wine, though it exhibits a stronger affinity with the communal cuvées than with the domaine's sole grand cru.
This is also distinctly cool and restrained with more sauvage character to the plum, herbal tea and freshly turned earth scents. The delicious and attractively energetic flavors are not especially dense but I like the delineation and salinity that gradually emerges on the youthfully austere and beautifully complex finale. This too should drink well after only 5 to 7 years if that's your preference.
