The 2019 Corton Clos du Roy Grand Cru is excellent, offering up aromas of sweet berry fruit, licorice, warm spices, rose petals and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, it's deep but fine-boned, with a more linear, tightly wound profile than the ampler, broader Bressandes. With time, however, I believe it will emerge as Guyon's finest 2019.
A slightly riper and not quite as fresh nose reflects a plenitude of spice elements on the roasted dark berry fruit and sauvage scents. There is again excellent volume to the vigorous and muscular big-bodied flavors that are also shaped by a firm tannic spine on the austere, serious and sneaky long finish. I suspect that the energy of the palate will eventually help the nose will pick up freshness with age though that of course remains to be seen.
