The generic Mortet 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin consists in a compilation from all of his younger vines, and represents nearly half of his total production in Gevrey appellations. Ripe dark cherry and blackberry tinged accented by brown spices and smoked meat in the nose migrate to a substantial, rich, meaty palate (in no way the sort one associates with "young vines") whereon tart fruit skin and spice offer invigoration. This falls down just a bit in the finish, however, by revealing a slight dry spot.
Smooth and ripe, evoking red and black cherry and oak spice notes. Balanced and juicy, yet with firm, fine-grained tannins underneath, followed by a nice expansive finish.
