The most elegant wine in the cellar is the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses, a classy offering that bursts with aromas of black raspberries, cherries, rose petals, dark chocolate, spices and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and succulent, with an ample core of fruit, melting tannins and a long, sappy finish.
Dom Comte de Vogüé is the third-biggest owner of this climat, with about one-tenth of the 5.5 ha (13.6 acres). (Groffier is the biggest, with almost 1.5 ha.) Located upslope on the southern side next to the old quarry and close to Le Musigny. Vines planted in 1964 and 1974.
Packed on the nose with intense black fruit – cherry and blackberry. Smells ripe and generous. Spicy too and a touch of savoury char. Firm, dry and super-fine, like layers of paper so that it is still juicy at the core. Just a hint of the classic sweetness and perfume of this appellation but it’s subtle. Great finesse and length. Elegant. (JH)
