Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers from Armand Rousseau has a very backward, slightly stemmy nose with touches of Earl Grey infusing the red berry fruit, nicely defined but like Christian Serafin's, it is unapologetically understated at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, nicely judged acidity with a gentle grip and fine structure towards the finish. There is a completeness and harmony to this wine that is very engaging however, it degrades a little in the glass and loses some definition with aeration and consequently ended up knocking a couple of points off of my initial score.
