The 2022 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières (Domaine Louis Jadot) unites charm and tension, mingling aromas of pear and orange zest with nuances of white flowers, mint and vanilla pod in an inviting bouquet that's followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive palate.
The 2022 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru pales against the Charmes, lacking the same sense of terroir expression. It’s quite creamy, missing the mineralité that this vineyard can provide. The palate is medium-bodied with a waxy-textured opening. There’s good substance and much more complexity than the aromatics, a touch of white chocolate and almond enhancing the finish. The aromatics just need to up their game.
Smoky notes of mineral reduction add breadth to the cool and airy aromas of spiced green apple, citrus rind and floral wisps. The dense yet refined medium weight flavors possess a gorgeous texture that carries over to the markedly stony bitter lemon-zest-suffused finale that is bone-dry. There is already good depth to this youthfully austere effort and a decade of keeping should only render it more attractive. Worth considering.
A little more power to the nose ahead of its stablemates Charmes and Genevrières, indeed much more backward. The talent of Perrières is to have this enormous weight of fruit while delivering also a crystalline minerality. This has an impressively broad density of fruit behind, the detail not yet being expressed. Drink from 2032-2040.
