Directly adjacent to Screaming Eagle and across from Tin Box, this parcel selection is based on red soils, where Bevan says the pH is always lower and the fruit profile redder. That said, I found the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard The Calixtro to come out of the bottle smoky, with almost charred plum and dark chocolate notes. Admittedly, the wine did develop hints of cherry and redcurrant with air. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it adds earthy, loam-like savory notes on the long, mouthwatering finish.
All Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard The Calixtro is incredible and unquestionably a perfect wine in this reviewer’s opinion. Ripe currants, iron, black cherries, graphite, and some meaty, spicy notes all define the bouquet, and it’s full-bodied, has flawless balance, ripe, supple tannins, and a great finish. It delivers a rare mix of purity, precision, and opulence that’s something to behold. I like it today, yet it should cruise for another two decades in cold cellars.
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Tench Vineyard The Calixtro is sourced from a tiny parcel on the southern edge of the property. A deep, earthy wine, the Calixtro pulses with a heady mix of black cherry, crushed rocks, menthol, licorice, spice and lavender, all framed by huge imposing tannins. The Calixtro is certainly not a shy wine.
