The 2006 Cote Rotie la Landonne is shockingly good in the vintage. As always, it's 100% Syrah and saw all new French oak for 16 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Offering up incredible notes of raspberry, cassis, olives, wood smoke and Asian spices, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, terrific levels of concentration, sensational purity and a great finish. Easily in the top 2-3 wines of the vintage, drink it anytime over the coming 15-20 years. Note, there was no 2007 Cote Rotie la Landonne due to hail damage.
Shows a rich core of plum and red currant fruit, backed by notes of espresso, iron and red licorice. The structure is nicely rounded and integrated, with the red fruit and iron notes lingering through the medium-weight finish. A sleek, modern style, with plenty of terroir.
