Indulging in Dutch Artistry: The Third Old Particular in the Dutch Dram Masters Series
We are delighted to captivate your enthusiasm once again with the third installment of Old Particular in the esteemed Dutch Dram Masters series. In a collaboration with De Monnik Dranken, Douglas Laing presents 'The Dutch Dram Masters' as a tribute to the legacy of our Dutch art masters. Following the success of the Nachtwacht and the Windstoot, we proudly introduce:
"The Merry Family" by Jan Havicksz. Steen, 1668
"In high spirits, the entire family revels with noise – the father sings loudly, raising his glass, while mother and grandmother join in, and the children blow along, even smoking from long pipes. The note on the mantelpiece reveals the moral of the story: 'As the old ones sang, so the young ones chirp.'"
The Appropriate Artwork for the Season
For those who pay close attention, a bagpiper in the background provides a delightful connection to Scottish whisky. Specifically, a 17-year-old Glenrothes matured in a Sherry Butt takes center stage. This elixir of life is bottled at a robust cask strength of 61.1% ABV. With the festive season in mind, we have chosen this remarkable artwork that harmoniously blends with the single malt single cask within the bottle. An ideal gift to give or receive, or simply indulge yourself in luxury!
Tasting Notes:
Color: Rich mahogany.
Flavor Profile: Spiced oak, sugared raspberries, rich mocha, juicy barley, and cherries.
Immerse yourself in the artful fusion of Dutch masterpieces and Scottish whisky craftsmanship. The 17-year-old Glenrothes, a true embodiment of the holiday spirit, awaits to be shared, savored, and celebrated. Whether you're gifting a loved one or treating yourself to a luxurious experience, this limited edition release is a testament to the unparalleled collaboration between art and fine spirits. Cheers to the joyous synergy of The Merry Family and The Dutch Dram Masters!
A very concentrated, high-octane whisky.
Nose
Strong hints of tobacco, a sliver of espresso, plenty of mocha and fudge. Also a touch of aceto di balsamico, whispers of blackcurrants and even some crème de cassis. There are figs and dates, but also tinges of brown sugar and marzipan. Even a bit of soy sauce after 10 minutes or so. So far so good.
Taste
Creamy, almost viscous mouthfeel. Initially a hit of cracked black pepper corns, immediately followed by a sliver aniseed, as well as mocha, nougat and maybe a hint of sulphur, but barely noticeable. Also dried dates, cherry syrup and cocoa powder, alongside a drop of ristretto. Seriously good.
Finish
Long, slightly dry, but sweet and bitter too.
