Jeb Dunnuck: Smith makes two Syrahs, both leaning toward the cool climate, spicy, complex end of the spectrum. Coming from a site on the Sonoma Coast and only 50% destemmed, the 2018 Syrah DuMOL Estate Vineyard offers a meaty, smoky, dense bouquet of peppery dark fruits, bouquet garni, violets, and damp earth. Reminding me of a top Saint-Joseph, it's medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, beautiful purity, and a great finish. 200 cases were made.

This was easily the finest set of releases I have tasted from winemaker Andy Smith.
