The 2012 Vinedo Chadwick is a wine from Alto Maipo, a separate vineyard from their Aconcagua ones in the classic Cabernet Sauvignon producing region, which is the only grape used here. The vineyards have alluvial soils with clay that are ideal for the variety. In 2012, this wine has good acidity and feels classic and elegant, poised and harmonious, a noble bottling with fine-grained tannin and good structure. Juicy without being clumsy, it seems as though the deeper soils are good at absorbing the heat of the vintage, and this combination works well. A powerful, Old World-styled Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink 2016-2025.
This is a superb red with currant, white truffle, sandalwood and stone. Full body, chewy tannins and a powerful finish. Turns to iodine. Gravel and hints of licorice too. Very, very long. This IS the La Mission Haut Brion of Chile. A phenomenal cabernet sauvignon. Needs at least five years to soften. 800 cases. Wait until 2018.
